Position Overview:
The Additive Manufacturing/Applications Engineer is responsible for someone who wants to take ownership of solution design and configuration and assist with other enterprise, government, or manufacturing-related functions. You will report to the Head of Engineering, working on the execution of prints and the design of software and hardware features. You will be responsible for operating the Aperture cell and overseeing the timely completion of customer builds. This role is collaborative— the candidate will work with welding, robotics, and software engineers to realize first-of-kind wire arc additive manufacturing. Strong, collaborative relationships with peers and leaders across the company are critical.
Responsibilities:
- Operate the Aperture cell and oversee the timely completion of customer builds
- Provide engineering support for design and process improvements, enhancing efficiency, quality, and cost-effectiveness for new and existing products.
- Design and execute commercial 3d printing using CAD and algorithmic design tools.
- Experience designing, implementing, and optimizing custom tool path workflows
- Analyze and resolve manufacturing discrepancies, collaborating with the quality team on root cause analysis and corrective actions.
- Assist in developing slicing algorithms.
- Lead the safety and security practices related to the Aperture cell and manufacturing.
Qualifications:
- A degree. in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Industrial Design, Architecture, or equivalent experience.
- Prior experience of Grasshopper 3D
- 3+ Years of experience with CAD/CAM systems
- 2+ Years of experience with additive manufacturing processes.
- Must be a US citizen
Preferred but not required:
- 1+ Years of customer-facing engineering experience
- Programming and scripting in Python, C#, C++, or G-Code
- Experience with CNC machining and subtractive processes
- Hands-on experience with metal fabrication
- Experience with wiring and programming industrial PLCs or IoT microcontrollers
- History of working in quality environments such as ITAR, AS9100D, or ISO 9001
- Interests in art, architecture, design, or construction
- Familiarity with Lean Six Sigma practices
